top 4 vs fa cup?
I know my view isn't a popular one.

But surely top 4 is better for for us especially at this time.
There may never be another time to get into the top 4. Next season all the normal clubs will start spending heavily either to disrupt the like of Leicester an Spurs by buying their players or by buying even more.

We are 3 points off Arsenal and 2 points of City with the same games played and we've beaten both clubs this season. With 9 games left I really hope we don't take our foot off the gas here.

Europa league is nice, but it hasn't improved Southampton, Everton, Newcastle etc.. Yet a CL place can really change things. You can attract better players for cheaper etc.. The extra money, visibility etc... It's immense.

I know a cup win as great fun and something to remember. But a top 4 finish for the long term future of the club is just so important.

There may not be another season as open as this one, we should take advantage of it. There will always be opportunities to win an fa cup, top 4? nah...

Pre 96ers will choose the cup, whereas the post 96ers will go for the top four.

If there was a God and it offered me tenth in the league and an FA cup, I'd snatch its hand off.

I was 5! I suppose it was what made me a West Ham fan. But the FA cup was such a big day back then. Everyone took it seriously. You never had teams fielding weakened sides etc.. So it really was a big thing for us to beat Arsenal especially being a 2nd div side.

So for me, the fa cup gave any side a chance to prove themselves against the very best. Sadly, it doesnt really do that anymore.

So for me, doing something that no one ever though we could do (make top 4) is just so much bigger. There isnt a club that doesnt take CL seriously or a top 4 finish.

Most of the clubs in europe I've only ever heard of because of their european excursions. Thats what gets you on the map. It would build us up so much more than any cup run. And why should we automatically think we cant qualify when weve been every top club in england, some of them twice? Where is the faith? Such a small time mentality here.

Each to their own I suppose. I've spent decades having "big" clubs look down on us like.. "ahh west ham, never mind. etc..". A top 4 is a big fuck off. fa cup, not so much.

Where we differ is that I believe we will have many more chances to finish Top4 in the next 10 seasons.
10, to be exact.

Re: top 4 vs fa cup?
Three sixty I take it you saw us win a cup?

I don't expect we will get through to the knockout stages of the Champions League IF we get in it, but we will have bought in a fair few Champions Leahue players ones that would never have considered us if we hadn't qualified for it, with these top quality players we will have a good chance to qualify again and again and maybe win the Premiership which is something I thought I would never see in my lifetime.

not saying I dont want to win a trophy.
I'm saying is it better than a top 4 finish and CL next season. Something we have NEVER achieved. Something that builds our club for the future.

Call me a "modern fan" (wish I was that youthful!), but fuck knows why we think pushing for excellence is bad... I suppose that indicative of modern Britain, no one wants to be excellent at anything. They just want to have party and get smashed and complain about the good old days...

This question gets so boring, it's not a mutually exclusive thing and we have a quiet enough schedule to take both tournaments seriously.

How about qualifying Europe via the cup.

No disrespect to Leicester, but they're gonna get walloped by europes elite next season.

Re: top 4 vs fa cup?
I would be happy with either. Cup would be easier to achieve and I think we will win today, won't be so easy if we have to play those dirty Everton bastards again, they will kick Payet and Lanzini off the pitch because they know it is the only way to stop us.

Most want a Cup win because they have never seen us win anything which is understandable. I was lucky enough to see us win two cups at Wembley so I personally would choose top four, just because we can attract Champions league players for our first season at the OS would be amazing and take us up a big level which is what we need. Would still love us to win the cup though, why not both?

Modern day fans....

Get on the train I'm on and ask any of the 9000 travelling up today if they want to win the cup or not.

Most ridiculous post.

Any fan that doesn't say winning a trophy needs their head testing.

Re: top 4 vs fa cup?
ok.. I knew it wouldn't be a popular view!

I just see this particular point in history as so unusual that we will be thinking 'what if?' for decades.

I dont think the chairmen will sell the club. There 80 odd years old.. what are they going to do with the cash? It's not as if they're struggling for money.

The cup is a great day out but it's not about the "best" playing at their best anymore and hasn't been for a long time. If the top sides can be bothered they field a good side, if not they just put some shit out.

Arsenal only bothered for political reasons (i.e. Wenger fails in the league every year so its like a burnt offering to fans to stop them from lynching him).

It's nice but no one but us will care. Just like you didn't care that Wigan won it.

We make top 4, and everyone starts to care.
That's real success to me and it means we can build and become an even stronger club.

I suppose at the end of the day... I'll just run with majority on this. Maybe I'm missing some important point about the cup. FA Cup it is then!

I'd take FA Cup if it meant we lose all our remaining league games. I want to see us win a trophy, was born 2 years after last time we won it.

Re: top 4 vs fa cup?
Things change. It's highly likely we'll be fuelled by middle-eastern otero dollars in a few years and can have top four if we choose to invest enough in the squad. None of this interests some supporters. We just want to see players who still have passion for our club WIN something. Parading the FA Cup outside the Boleyn is definitely, definitely something that cannot be repeated ever again. If you don't understand that then I don't know what to etc etc etc

Re: top 4 vs fa cup?
Don't give a stuff about 4th place or Champions league qualifiers.
WINNING competitions is what it's all about. Proper days out and history being made. We need to do everything to win the cup this year and every year. Our team this year deserves some real success.

It's lame Arsenal mentality to start waffling on about 4th place as if that is some sort of achievement.

Absolutely laughable.
